The student rugby team of NMMU George are looking forward to their participation in the upcoming University Sport of South Africa (USSA) Rugby Week hosted by Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria from 1 – 5 July.

NMMU George, ranked third in the C-section, will start their tournament with a first round match against University of Zululand on Monday, 1 July.

According to the university’s Sport Manager at the George Campus, Hugo Loubser, the team is extremely motivated for this year’s tournament: “The better we do this year, the better our ranking in next year’s tournament which will double as a qualifying tournament for the popular Varsity Shield competition”.

Winning Monday’s first round match will automatically see them through to Wednesday’s semi-finals in the top half of the C-section.

Other teams in the C-section are Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Walter Sisulu University (Buffalo Campus), Walter Sisulu University (Ibika Campus), Mangosuthu University of Technology, University of Johannesburg (Soweto Campus) and University of Limpopo (Turfloop Campus).
