Scheduled for 30 and 31 July 2015 at Glenwood House, ScieX 2015 will cover the theme – Innovations for Sustainable Futures.
This exciting science platform will, amongst others, incorporate innovative science projects in the sphere of electrodynamics, electrochemistry and photovoltaic cells, some cutting-edge technology displays and talks by scientists, academics, learners and students offering something for everyone. ScieX 2015 is anticipated to have a broad appeal amongst the community of George and environs.
Although the focus is on scientific innovation, ScieX 2015 will take a broader view on the topic of sustainability, offering a platform for business and the community at large to display, promote and learn about the innovative technologies that are essential to a more sustainable future.
“The scope and nature of ScieX 2015 complements the aims of NMMU’s Science Faculty to stimulate an interest in science, to help equip young people to address the challenges of tomorrow, and to invest in the development of innovative, cutting-edge technologies for a sustainable future”, says Prof Josh Louw, Director of the School of Natural Resource Management (NMMU Science Faculty) at the university’s George campus.
Cultivating an interest in and appreciation of the sciences is also recognised as being critical to the sustainable development of the Southern Cape region and our country.
“With this inclusive platform, we would specifically like to encourage young people across the board to embrace science, to innovate, discover and demonstrate how scientific principles can be applied in practice to promote sustainable futures”, says Glenwood House Headmaster, Mr Dennis Symes.
While the opening of ScieX 2015 is set to coincide with a public lecture at the NMMU George Campus on the captivating theme of innovation, the expos and workshops will be presented at Glenwood House, situated off Knysna Road on 30 July (09:00 – 16:00) and 31 July (09:00 – 13:00).
