Blessed with excellent running weather and boasting one of the most scenic routes in the southern Cape region, 130 runners took on the annual NMMU Madibaz George half-marathon on Saturday, 22 August.

Nedbank Running Club SWD made a clean sweep in the men’s section of the half-marathon with Elfonzo Pieterse claiming the win in 1:11:27, with club mate Julius Korkee second in 1:13:43. In the ladies’ race it was also a top two finish for Nedbank Running Club SWD with Melissa van Rensburg crossing the finishing line first in a time of 1:25:39 and Annatjie Botes in second place in 1:33:27.

The prize money for the first NMMU student in the men’s category went to Petra Schreuder, a BCom Business Management student and in the ladies’ category to Lisa Horn, a first year Nature Conservation student, both finishing the race in a time of 1:44.02.
